This week Senator John Boozman (R-AR), the ranking member of the Senate Ag Committee, unveiled the Senate Republican-drafted framework of the farm bill. Republicans have been stating for months that there should be more “farm in the farm bill.”
Senate Ag committee member Chuck Grassley (R-IA) says the Senate Ag Republican’s framework answers that call by boosting ag priorities.
An improved safety net and facilitating the expansion of access to overseas markets are also Republican priorities says Grassley.
Grassley has also called for the reform of the Commodity Credit Corporation and says the framework addresses those concerns.
He also says that Iowa pork producers will be pleased with the inclusion of a legislative response to California’s Prop 12.
Despite what appears to be another step forward in the farm bill process, Grassley says he remains doubtful about a new five-year farm bill.
Senator Grassley made his comments on Wednesday during his weekly ag conference call with farm broadcasters and reporters.
