This year will be a very important one for agricultural legislation, and that?s not just when you consider the 2023 Farm Bill. With a new roster for the House Ag Committee, plenty of additional legislative efforts will also be taking place. Iowa 4th District Congressman Randy Feenstra recently joined us to discuss four acts that he is hoping to pass this year. First up was the FARM Act, which aims to prevent malign foreign interests from infiltrating rural America and protect America?s agricultural supply chains and family farms.
Feenstra also talked about the Strategic Production Response Act, which would require the Biden Administration to outline and deploy a concrete plan to refill the Strategic Petroleum Reserve after non-emergency drawdown of oil reserves.
Feenstra has also talked recently about how the Biden administration has been overregulating the ag industry, especially when it comes to WOTUS. That?s why he?s also working on the REINS Act, which would reassert Congress?s legislative authority and prevent excessive overreach by the Executive Branch in the federal rulemaking process.
Feenstra said he?s also working on the Consumer and Fuel Retailer Choice Act, which would make E-15 available year-round nationwide permanently. Since we saw the summer E-15 moratorium get lifted last year, there may be a better chance for this legislation to pass this year.
