The weather has been throwing us for a loop in agriculture. Whether you are an advocate of permanent climate change, climate cycles, or just luck of the draw; you know that something is going on. No matter what is causing it, we have to be prepared to navigate it to have a successful growing season.

Andrew Penney is an agronomist for Bayer and is based in Iowa. He talks about the dry conditions we have in the cornbelt, and what we may need to think about for 2024.

Penney says that not enough credit can be given to the breeding teams that have developed these resilient genetics.

Penney says that we can’t be timid in our 2024 crop plans. We must plan for the best and prepare for the worst. If we are planning to only just get by, that’s all we will end up doing.
