Proposition 12 in California is something we have been hearing about for far too long. We know that the Supreme Court plans to take up the ballot initiative this fall and determine if a single state can dictate its rules to the other 49 states on how they should conduct their business. However, some Ag groups are going on the offensive and trying to educate voters about what is really going on with these state ballot initiatives.

While this program is mainly attacking the pork industry in the United States, it is also got the attention of every part of animal ag. Hannah Thompson Weeman is President and CEO of the Animal Agriculture Alliance. She says that it is so important that the Supreme Court hears this case because it will set precedence for further initiatives.

Prop 12 is only one statute in a group of proposals that have been shaped by those with no understanding of how animal ag works. Many of these initiatives have the backing of animal rights groups that are presenting information that is either highly edited or even staged to help plead their case.

Rest assured that this is only the tip of the iceberg for what these animal rights groups really have in mind. It isn?t so much about their vision of how animal ag should be run, it is more their vision of eliminating it completely.
