Ag challenges require new five-year farm bill in 2024

by | Dec 20, 2023 | 5 Ag Stories, News

The one-year extension of the farm bill in 2023 did leave a bit of a sour taste in the mouth of legislators and ag groups that pushed hard for a new five-year farm bill. However, the one-year extension does serve a vital purpose says Mike Stranz, vice president of advocacy for National Farmers Union.

United States Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) has recently mentioned the need for farm bill work to be completed early in 2024 to avoid the chaos of election season. Mike Stranz with National Farmers Union agrees.

Stranz explains the downside to a one-year continuation of the 2018 farm bill policy.

Stranz says that National Farmers Union members have been consistent in their requests for a new five-year farm bill in 2024.
