Arguably the most important- and sometimes the most difficult- part of starting to farm is making connections with other people in the ag industry and getting your foot in the door. There?s no better way to gain more farming knowledge, especially when talking with people who are similar in age or circumstance. The American Farm Bureau Federation helps younger agriculturists connect with the Young Farmers & Ranchers program. Hardin County Farm Bureau President Jacob Handsaker said the main goal of the program is to grow and develop young agriculturists and provide opportunities for them to succeed.
Young agriculturists are the future of the industry, so Handsaker said it?s important to make sure they have proper support.
The American Farm Bureau Federation Young Farmers & Ranchers program includes both men and women between the ages of 18-35. The program is focused on promoting personal growth in public speaking, issue advocacy, business development, networking, service leadership, media training, and telling the story of agriculture.
