Lessons learned from this growing season to be applied next year

by | Dec 3, 2025 | 5 Ag Stories, News

Every growing season is like a year spent in the agronomy classroom for growers. Every time a farmer thinks they have seen it all, mother nature finds a way to throw a curveball. This year disease pressure was prevalent throughout the Corn Belt and southern rust was found early and often across Iowa.

Robby Meeker is an agronomy manager with Wyffels Hybrids and he says that while disease pressure was rampant this year, not everyone felt that pressure.

Although southern Iowa has seen southern rust pressure in the past, this year the disease was found across the state. Meeker details how Wyffels Hybrids stood up to southern rust out of the bag.

While southern rust pressure should not be counted on every year, Meeker says that this growing season was a good example of a year where mother nature provides a surprise.

He says that it is important for farmers to not overreact to an individual growing season, but to build a plan based on a multi-year approach.
