As Congress returns to D.C., it is now expected that they will pass another extension of the 2018 farm bill. This is a far cry from what the ag industry was wanting- and hoping for- earlier this year. American Farm Bureau Federation President Zippy Duvall, during a session with members of the media at the Iowa Farm Bureau Annual Meeting, said that they are very disappointed in the lack of a new, modernized farm bill.
On top of a new farm bill, Duvall said disaster payments need to be a priority because the 2018 farm bill does not give farmers the tools they need to manage those risks.
That need for disaster payments has been showcased this year, as we have seen a wide variety of natural disasters across the country.
