Consumers are asking more and more questions about where their food and products are coming from. They want more accountability for the environment and sustainability. Farmers around the United States are working to share that story and assure their customers about the quality of their work and products.
April Hemmes is the Action Team Chair of the United Soybean Board (USB) and an Iowa farmer. She was in San Francisco earlier this week for the U.S. Soybean Export Council’s Connect event to meet with global buyers and tell the story of her farm and that of the American farmer.
Hemmes talks about the opportunity to share her story with the buyers and about how receptive they are to it.
One of the things that farmers need to understand is that what we take for granted every day in farming is foreign to people outside of agriculture. We must be prepared to make it easy for others to understand. That is going to be key in telling our story.
Hemmes ends by saying that the message she was sharing was well received and understood.
