State Ag Directors agree a Farm Bill must be done this year

We have talked a lot about the Farm Bill, its extension, and its outdated data that is still the basis for food policy in the United States. We have talked in-depth about the gridlock facing the Farm Bill in Congress and how the American people are hanging in the balance of political disagreement.

However, the calls to do something about it continue to come forth. This time it is coming from state officials who have the ears of their counterparts in Washington. The National Association of State Departments of Agriculture (NASDA) recently talked about their policy focuses for 2024, and once again sent a loud message to Congress about the Farm Bill. Ted McKinney, the NASDA CEO, says that State Ag Directors are vital to implementing federal policy.

They just need a federal policy to implement.

NASDA is calling attention to the need for improvements to ag research projects across the country.

Trade is a big concern as well for each state going forward. Many states do their own international trade outside of Federal level trade.

The states are urging the Federal Government to ACT on this matter as soon as possible.
