Farmers are always looking to be sustainable, which itself is usually a way to increase profitability. But now there are other ways, like carbon market programs, that can provide extra revenue to those sustainable practices. Travis Kraft, national sales director of Indigo Ag, said they have seen a lot of success- and farmers have seen lots of payments- through their carbon market program.
Since profitability and sustainability go hand in hand, Kraft said you will almost always increase one by increasing the other.
When adding new sustainable practices, Kraft said it’s important to keep it simple and make changes incrementally.
