No matter how much agriculture works together for the common good, we all need to break into our little separate groups to talk about the issues facing our commodity, look to the future, and find networking and support in our chosen specialty. We do it with hogs, dairy, corn, beef, soybeans, and more. Now, the U.S. Hemp Growers Association (USHGA) has formed to help provide that level of support and connection for their producers.
The USHGA formed last month and is the only national farmer-directed hemp trade association. Caren Wilcox is their executive director.
For the last 70 years, it was illegal to cultivate hemp, and the U.S. government had heavy restrictions on product research. This meant the United States was the largest importer of hemp products. Wilcox says that it is all about to change.
Wilcox says the organization hit the ground running on behalf of hemp producers.
The U.S. Hemp Growers Association will be holding a meeting in San Antonio this February to secure founding partners and install its first board of directors. Most of those directors will be Hemp producers. You can find out more by going to the USHGA website.
