Soybean harvest is finished. Corn harvest is now down to about eight-percent left in southwest and northeast Iowa, but less in other areas.
With grain in storage, what is the next move? If we were not able to export two-thirds of our soybean production, it would be worth far less.
There has been little action in improving the infrastructure – roads, rail and river – which is the pathway to processing and export.
I spoke with Mike Steenhoek, executive director of the Soy Transportation Coalition, and gave him an opportunity to define the problems, concerns and hopes for keeping United States farmers competitive in a dynamic and challenging world market.
