QORE, a joint venture between Cargill and German-based chemical company HELM, officially started the production of its newest product- QIRA- in Eddyville, Iowa. QIRA is the world’s first large-scale renewable butanediol (BDO), which is made from locally grown yellow dent corn. This is a renewable solution to be used as an alternative to a fossil-derived equivalent that is currently commonly used in many consumer goods, like fashion, footwear, beauty, and personal care products as well as automotive parts, electronics, and packaging. QORE CEO Jon Veldhouse said they are excited to finally bring QIRA to life.
Veldhouse said that this building block is used in many products that we use every day.
Veldhouse said QIRA is a sustainable alternative for companies to utilize, as it sequesters carbon instead of pulling it out of the ground.
