As President Trump continues with his trade policies, farmers in Iowa are feeling the squeeze economically. It’s going to take much more than a bridge payment to make sure that family farms in Iowa are able to keep operating in the future. Iowa Farmers Union President Aaron Lehman said farmers are feeling financial pressure in several ways.
Lehman said President Trump’s chaotic trade policy makes an already tough situation even worse.
Lehman said the damage these policies cause to global relations reverses the work that farmers have done to foster those relationships for many years.
Lehman said those damaged relationships often don’t come back once the chaotic policies are lifted either.
These factors lead farmers to make tough decisions on other major farm purchases.
Lehman added that these consequences also impact rural communities in Iowa.
