Toyota receives “Friend of Corn” award

We have long been talking about the battle being fought for the future of biofuels in this country. Between the big oil companies on one side trying to lobby or litigate biofuels out of the marketplace and the current administration saying the EVs are the only option going forward, it’s probably shocking to see a car company receive an award from the National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) for being a “Friend of Corn”.

Well, that is exactly what happened during Commodity Classic in Houston, TX. The NCGA presented the “Friend of Corn” award to Toyota.

Iowa Corn Growers Association First Vice President Stu Swanson is a Galt, Iowa farmer. And he tells us about why Toyota received this award.

Toyota’s Prius model was one of the first cars in America that started the conversation about EVs and Hybrid cars. Cars using a combination of electricity and biofuels were the first to get us thinking about how we can do better for the environment with our vehicle emissions.

While Toyota also has newer EVs available, they haven’t lost sight of the part that biofuels and hybrid cars can still play on American roads. They are not putting all their eggs in one basket or another. They stand by the fact that all options should be considered. That is why they were honored with the “Friend of Corn” award. For looking at the future with a wide-angle lens.

Swanson says that this is the kind of relationship that the corn and biofuels industries would like to have with all auto manufacturers.
