In true Iowa fashion, the weather was unpredictable for the first day of the Iowa State Fair. Thunderstorms rolled across the Des Moines metro, and many state fair attendees decided to wait out the storms before making their visit to the fair. But once the storms left, the crowds poured in, and the Iowa State Fair returned to its normal business.
With so many people attending the Iowa State Fair, there’s almost a captive audience for ag education. And with the average Iowan becoming further removed from the farm, it’s a great opportunity to show how food gets from the farm to the table. Iowa State Fair CEO Jeremy Parsons said the fair helps to bridge the gap between urban and rural audiences.
Perhaps the best way to connect people with agriculture is through the variety of fair foods offered by the Iowa State Fair vendors. Parsons said three Iowa businesses were able to stand out among the crowd of new and exciting fair foods.
Parsons said many people forget where exactly their food comes from, and the Iowa State Fair can help remind them to appreciate their local farmers.
