Southern Iowa saw good yields in 2021 and looks to continue in 2022

2021 was a year of question marks, variability, and perseverance in Iowa. Northern Iowa needed rain. Southeast Iowa wanted to turn the rain off. We had reports of diseases in the south and rootworms in the north. Variability like this, in such a small region, can make even the best agronomists scratch their heads at the end of the day. No matter what your plan is to handle the variables that are thrown at you at the beginning of the year, you need to get off to a strong start.

Scott Gard is with Syngenta and covers Southern Iowa. He particularly works with the NK Seeds brand. He talks about the fact that the west started dry, the east started wet, and that posed some different challenges. He talks about how most farmers, for the most part, were happy with how things worked out.

Disease pressure brought gray leaf spot, sudden death syndrome, frogeye leaf spot, and more. However, despite this, they saw more corn and soybeans into the bins this last fall.

Gard says that they saw particularly good performance out of NK1188 corn. He expects to this hybrid to keep performing well in 2022. He is also excited to be watching what is coming down the pipeline from Syngenta. He says in the next few years, we will see some exciting offerings.

Gard says that he is excited to get into the 2022 growing season and see what is in store for farmers in southern Iowa. He says that if you are still looking to fill up some corn acres, consider NK Seed hybrids from Syngenta. You can learn more about their offerings by visiting their website, or by contacting your local Syngenta retailer.
