Everyone should be quick to listen, and slow to speak. -James 1:19
Unfortunately, I prize myself in my ability to speak.
I am a communication major, so communication is never a difficult thing for me, unless you are in another country (like Haiti) and you can’t speak the language to communicate.
This happened to me last week.
I couldn’t talk to the kids. I couldn’t talk to the adults. I couldn’t communicate.
I could only listen, and think of creative ways to converse.
In the course of a week I learned that words get in the way.
Sometimes we don’t need to say anything. A smile, a wave, a handshake, a hug, a life, or a holding of the hand is more than enough.
Have you let your words get in the way? I certainly have! Try listening today rather than speaking!
Prayer: “God help me to slow to speak and quick to listen. Thank you for the reminder that my ability to communicate can be my greatest weakness. In your name I pray, Amen.”
