Lawmakers in Washington D.C. have been actively engaged in debt limit negotiations with some politicians warning that the United States could go into debt default and be unable to pay its bills as soon as June 1st if the debt ceiling isn?t raised.
United States Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) held his weekly press conference with ag broadcasters and reporters on Wednesday and was asked about the debt ceiling discussions in Washington D.C.
Grassley was asked if he thinks the United States government can avoid default and how agriculture is affected regarding the debt limit cliff.
That?s Senator Chuck Grassley who says that rising interest rates have been implemented in order to slow inflation.
Grassley was also asked for an update on the technical consultation process between the United States and Mexico and the debate surrounding GMO corn.
Also, the hearing to examine the nomination of Xochitl Torres Small, to be Deputy Secretary of Agriculture took place Wednesday morning. Grassley was asked before the hearing if there would be any concerns with her nomination.
