It’s hard to believe that 2024 is coming to an end on Wednesday. It feels like just yesterday that we were kicking off the new year. I know they say time flies, but this one felt like we blinked and missed it. However, as fast as this year seemed to go, it wasn’t without its milestones that we are going to look back on these next two days.
Iowa Ag Secretary Mike Naig talked with us about some of the things that held our focus as 2024 zipped past us. It all begins and ends with Mother Nature. Boy, did she throw us for a loop this year.
Next, of course, Is the Ag economy, It really didn’t have the year we hoped that it would across the country. We saw that in input costs, grain prices, and in business itself.
Of course, we couldn’t have another year go by without HPAI. Thankfully the losses weren’t as huge as years past, but it still was a problem, and in many ways became a bigger problem as it jumped the species barrier several times in 2024.
Not all the news was bad. Naig reflects on the legislative session in the state gave Iowa something to be proud of. Marketing our products around the state and around the world took some positive steps as well.
Adding to that value for our farms were investments in ag business expansion in 2024. No bigger highlight could be found than the new Daisy plant in Boone.
We will conclude our year in review with Iowa Ag Secretary Mike Naig tomorrow.
