We have talked for years about the damage that Soybean Cyst Nematodes (SCN) do to soybean fields around the country. They are a pest that has only a few methods for attack, and they are adapting well to those methods. However, it seems that it has been hard to put that damage into a quantitative method that farmers will appreciate.
Estimates and figures for a region or state as a whole can be shocking, but it really doesn’t hit home until you see what the cost is to your yield. It is in that spirit that the SCN Coalition has developed the SCN Profit Checker tool. Dr. Greg Tylka is a nematologist at Iowa State University, and he talks with us about how the tool works.
