The 2025 crop season had a little bit of everything in Iowa. A lot of moisture early and dry conditions in August. Southern rust pressure throughout the state and weed pressure from persistent weeds such as waterhemp.
The takeaway? Even if you think you are saving money by pulling back on pre-emergence products and fungicide applications, the results at the end of the season can tell a different story says Eric Scherder of Corteva Agriscience.
Scherder says that fungicides can offer a lot to a grower as an “insurance policy” to your crops and at worst a break-even situation on the bottom line.
