Rains are welcomed, but more is needed

We have definitely had a more active weather pattern in the past few days. In fact, yesterday was the first day since Thursday that Des Moines did not see any rainfall. Mind you, I am not complaining. We need the rain. I am just pointing out that things have changed in the past few days.

Iowa Ag Secretary Mike Naig says that not everybody has gotten all the rain they wanted, but at least we are seeing somewhat of a start in the past week to ten days.

Naig says that even though we are dry, the last two years have shown us that the newer hybrid technologies have better drought tolerance, and that can give us at least a ray of hope in even the driest fields.

Sec Naig says that after meeting with many of his counterparts throughout the Midwest, we are certainly not alone, and honestly, we are even a little better off than some of our neighbors. That includes the Derecho that hit parts of Illinois and Indiana late last week.
