The National Pork Board has named Jamie Burr as the organization?s first Chief Sustainability Officer, holding a position to link between producers, supply chains partners, investors, and consumers. CEO Bill Even said Burr is no stranger to the industry, growing up on a hog farm, working for Tyson, and chairing several NPB environmental and sustainability committees and task forces. This experience has prepared him for his role communicating about the We Care Ethical Principles.
?So, Jamie’s job is to now take those We Care Ethical Principles and apply them in the world of sustainability, and I think more importantly, go out on the road and talk to a lot of the major brands in both in the grocery industry and the food industry and let them know the facts about the sustainability of U.S. pork production,? Even said.
Burr said there is a lot of work being done, like doing more for less to better those around you, and that takes a team to accomplish it.
?I think about it again, in terms of the planet, I think about it as people, our neighbors, our customers or consumers, team members that work in our barns, that work outside the barns is growing corn for pigs,? Burr said. ?I think about it as the entire supply chain working together.?
Burr added that his job will continue to elevate the story of pork producers.
?We are constantly listening to consumer demand, but we’re also ensuring that we protect the freedom of producers to operate,? Burr said. ?So, I think that that’s right at the center of what I’m to do, is to be the voice of consumers back to producers and the voice of producers to consumers.?
