Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind. -Romans 12:2
Normal: conforming to a standard; usual, typical, or expected.
Weird: strange or extraordinary character.
What have you been called more often, normal or weird?
I think a few years ago if I would have been called weird, I would have changed myself and taken it pretty personal.
Now, if I would get called normal I would be pretty offended.
I don’t want to be normal. I want to be weird. I want to be different.
What if being the Christian kind of weird didn’t mean the same thing as the bad-weird, freak show, annoying, weird?
What if the Bible is talking about a different-than-what everyone else does, good type of Jesus weird?
In churches, normal is lukewarm Christianity, self-centered spiritual consumerism, and shallow, me-driven faith.
I don’t want to be that, do you?
Separating ourselves from what the world considers normal is not just a matter of obedience. God invites us to dance to a different tune.
If it seems like you’re doing something different from what everyone else is doing, and it sometimes feels hard, this is a good thing!
Today, refuse to be normal. Jesus wasn’t normal, and he sure doesn’t expect us to be normal. Be Jesus. Be weird, because normal isn’t working!
Prayer: “Jesus, thank you for being the polar opposite of normal. Help me to not conform to what the standard is. Help me to be like you. In your name, Amen.”
