Woven into the We Care® Ethical Principles, One Health connects human health, animal health, and the health of the environment. Discussion topics during this week’s National Farm Safety and Health Week fit right into this, including mental well-being as a priority.
After all, it’s easy to put yourself at the bottom of the to-do list with fall’s busy season of combining, moving wagons, hauling manure, and endless parts runs. National Pork Board’s Director of Producer and Public Health Heather Fowler encourages farmers to prioritize themselves beyond physical well-being.
Physical safety is also discussed through videos and webinars during the annual safety week. Confined spaces, like grain storage bins, are areas you can enter and exit, but they’re not designed for someone to spend extended time. Fowler explains a few action steps before entering.
Farm safety and farmer health are important all year round, with recognition this week with publicly available information from AgriSafe, partly funded by the Pork Checkoff. Google National Farm Safety and Health Week to access more information.
