Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) says that in meeting with Iowans on his 99-county tour, he has heard many concerns about consolidation in the beef processing industry and its effect on Iowa producers.
USDA recently announced it will award $25 million towards the Cattlemen?s Heritage Beef Co. processing plant construction in Mills County, Iowa. The project is expected to carry a $450 million price tag in total.
Grassley says that The Cattle Price Discovery and Transparency Act needs to be the next step to help Iowa?s producers.
Grassley is a a co-sponsor of the bill.
