Remember last summer and early fall when we were so worried about the levels of the Mississippi river? Even though those levels eventually came back up, we are still not out of the woods. Drought has gripped much of the Midwest, and the main tributaries of the Old Man of Rivers are running low on water. This means that the barges may soon be in jeopardy once again.

Jimmy Cheatham is a barge captain on the Mississippi River and also shares his stories on TikTok as Capt-J-Rock. He says the river levels are a growing concern once again in 2023.

He talks about the fact that barges are already being sent lighter down the river.

Captain Cheatham explains what this means for states such as Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin.
