As we approach the spring season, it’s important to make sure that your fields are ready to go for planting. That includes making sure you have nutrient application plans in place. Kent Klingbeil, lead agronomist with Advanced Agrilytics, said farmers who applied manure in the fall need to analyze how the nutrients held up and address any potential issues.
Klingbeil said nitrogen loss shouldn’t be a major concern, even with the warmer weather we saw in the fall. Right now, the focus should be on what happens from this point forward into the spring.
Klingbeil said environmental factors are extremely important to consider, as that can lower the availability of nitrogen early on.
Klingbeil added that the quicker you can get your corn to canopy, the better off that crop will be.
