Loving the Beast

“Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God.” -1 John 4:7

Last week I went and watched the new beauty and the beast.

It was a good movie. I am a sucker for love movies so my heart was full leaving the theater.

One thing I couldn’t help but think about was how this movie looks a lot like what Christ followers should look like.

In the movie Belle loves the beast. She loves the guy that seems ugly, messy, mean, and alone.

The village people see him as a monster, but she sees him as a person. Belle cares for the man that others despise.

We all have beasts in our lives that seem to be unlovable. We have the people that are loners, critical, annoying, negative, and selfish.

However, as Christ followers we are to love God, and love people…even the people that may seem to be mean beasts.

When Belle showed loved to the beast, he was no longer a beast. He was a man. All the village people then saw him for who he truly was.

When we start to love the seemingly unlovable, we show the people around us that they can show love too.

So, who is the beast in your life? How can you show that person the love of Christ this week?

Prayer: “God, thank you for loving me when I am completely unlovable. Help me to love the beasts in my life that seem to be less than deserving of love. In your name I pray, Amen.”
