Whether you call it ?service after the sale? or ?customer service?, agriculture is not immune to having to engage with their customers over what they want and what can be provided to them. When we make trade trips, you look at the good and you look at the bad. Sometimes there are impasses and sometimes progress is made. The important thing is to be there, in person, talking with your customers and finding a way to strengthen trade.
Iowa sent a delegation to Mexico a few weeks ago.
Audio: Full discussion with ISA’s Suzanne Shirbroun
Suzzanne Shirbroun is with the Iowa Soybean Association. I caught up with her at Commodity Classic, only a week after she was part of a trade trip to Mexico, sponsored by Iowa Economic Development. Iowa Ag Secretary Mike Naig was also on that trip. She tells us about her experience. One of the topics that was at the top of mind was Mexico?s new stance on GMO corn and soybeans.
Shirbroun says that it looks like this move is purely political for President Andr?s Manuel L?pez Obrador.
Shirbroun adds that this will not only be hard on Iowa growers but also the citizens of Mexico. They will be looking at a significant cost increase in the price of food there.
Shirbroun says now it is time to assess the situation that Mexico is putting us in and be ready with whichever way we need to move forward.
