The annual Iowa Farm Bureau Cookout Contest is one of the most delicious and best-smelling contests of each Iowa State Fair. While the focus is certainly on the food, it also serves as a great opportunity to connect fairgoers with the farming families that raise the food they put on their tables. Iowa Farm Bureau President Brent Johnson said they were even able to visit with the winner of the first-ever Cookout Contest in 1964.
Johnson said the Cookout Contest is a great demonstration of the high-quality products Iowa farmers produce.
Johnson said the state fair itself is also a fantastic opportunity for fairgoers to connect with Iowa farm families and learn about their way of life.
