As we kick off 2025, the ag industry is still waiting for an updated farm bill. Following the results of the last election, especially with some agriculture-friendly faces in D.C., there is hope that something can get done this time around.

The Iowa Cattlemen’s Association recently held its annual meeting, where members discussed and voted on their policy priorities for the year. Kelli Wicks, director of government relations and public policy for the Iowa Cattlemen’s Association, said a financial safety net was among the top priorities voted on for this year.

Wicks said producers also need protection against potential foreign animal disease and natural disaster threats- both of which were shown to be big problems in 2024.

Fortunately, Wicks said there a plenty of familiar faces- and promising new ones- in both the state and federal leadership who they can work with on these policies.
