Following the Environmental Protection Agency’s release of the proposed Renewable Fuel Standard volumes for 2026 and 2027, ag and biofuel groups are publishing their reactions to the proposed volumes.
Grant Kimberley, executive director of the Iowa Biodiesel Board says his initial reaction is very positive.
Renewable Identification Numbers or RINs are tracking numbers assigned to batches of renewable fuel under the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) in the United States.
Kimberley says that under the proposal biomass-based diesel volumes will increase.
Kimberley adds that the question of what will happen with small refinery exemptions is still unresolved and that it will be a big piece of the final numbers.
He also says that the announcement from EPA should be good news for idled biodiesel plants in Iowa, allowing them to get back to producing biofuels but he adds a caveat.
