Iowa Agribusiness Association Showcase highlights industry policy conversations

Agribusiness leaders from across the state gathered in Des Moines these past two days for the Agribusiness Association of Iowa Showcase, an annual event that brings together agronomists, retailers, and industry partners to discuss the challenges shaping Iowa agriculture. While the event features a wide range of educational sessions and networking opportunities, many of the conversations this year have centered on workforce pressures, conservation goals, and the evolving regulatory landscape facing agribusinesses and the farmers they serve.

AAI CEO Julie Kenney says maintaining a strong business climate remains a priority as members navigate tighter margins and changing expectations across the industry.

Kenney says collaboration across commodity groups, research organizations, and state agencies is becoming increasingly important as agronomists and ag retailers work to keep pace with conservation efforts and compliance requirements. She notes that water quality initiatives and measuring conservation progress continue to be a major focus for agribusinesses working directly with producers.

The Showcase also highlights the role education plays within the industry, from technical sessions for certified crop advisors to broader discussions around economic outlook, weather trends, and emerging technology. Organizers say strong attendance at this year’s event reflects a continued demand for information sharing and problem-solving as companies look for ways to better support their farmer customers.

Kenney adds that partnerships with the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship and Iowa State University help provide timely updates on regulatory changes and best management practices, giving agronomists and applicators the tools they need to stay informed.

Kenney says ongoing education and collaboration remain key as agribusinesses work to balance conservation goals, compliance requirements, and the economic realities facing farmers across Iowa. She notes that many of the discussions happening this week reflect a broader shift within the industry, where agronomists and ag retailers are being asked to do more than just deliver products, serving as technical advisors, regulatory resources, and trusted partners for producers navigating an increasingly complex environment.

As market uncertainty and policy conversations continue, she says keeping lines of communication open between industry groups, researchers, and state agencies will be critical to helping Iowa agriculture adapt. While events like the Showcase provide a place for those conversations to happen, the long-term focus remains on strengthening agribusinesses and giving farmers practical tools and information they can use back on the farm.
