Looking at various forecasts for the next week to ten days, we can see one point of agreement. It?s going to be hot. You can check local listings to see what range of temps are being forecasted, but it is going to be anywhere from the upper 90s to the lower triple digits. This means a lot more stress for our crops, which are still trying to cope with the heat stress that they have already faced this year.

While it has been cooler for the last two weeks or so, summer is going to come back with a vengeance for the next week to ten days. Iowa Ag Secretary Mike Naig talks about how we have seen a little improvement, but we are by no means out of the woods.

But the hybrids have gotten better and withstanding these conditions, and root systems seem to be deep and solid, which bodes well for when we do get rain, or when they are stressed.

Heat indices are going to be well into the triple digits this week. Make sure to take care of yourself, your employees, your family, and your livestock.
