Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) says that in meeting with Iowans recently, the topic of the farm bill remains a priority.
Despite pushing hard for work to be completed early in the year on the farm bill, to allow for elections later in the calendar, progress has stalled. Grassley says that despite his earlier hope for a new five-year bill, his optimism has waned.
If House Ag Chair G.T. Thompson can find bipartisan agreement in his panel searching for a way to fund farm safety net improvements, Grassley says that could break the logjam in the Senate Ag Committee.
Even with the hope that the House can find a path for funding, Grassley says predicting what will happen in the House is not easy.
Senator Chuck Grassley made his comments on Tuesday morning during his weekly ag conference call with farm broadcasters and reporters.
