Tonight, Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley and Iowa 4th District Congressman Randy Feenstra are in Cherokee to meet with a group about the Cattle Market Transparency bills moving in Congress. The event is made possible by the Iowa Cattlemen?s Association. Senator Grassley is anticipating these bills to make moves very soon.

Senator Grassley talked about his bill having a hearing in the Senate Ag Committee. He anticipates it moving out of the committee during the upcoming work session which ends before the Independence Day Holiday.

Grassley says that he first moved this bill in 2002, but right now it has more support than it has ever gotten before.

Grassley says that if something isn?t done now, we are going to keep losing independent producers at a large rate. This is also placing a burden on consumers at a time when food prices are soaring.
