Gov. Reynolds signs two important cattle bills

Last week, Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds signed two high-priority bills for the Iowa Cattlemen’s Association (ICA) into law. The event marked a great victory for today’s cattle producers as well as future generations. ICA CEO Bryan Whaley said the first of the two bills, the Meat Integrity Bill, protects against the misbranding of non-meat products.

Whaley said this was a priority for the ICA because the sale of meat substitutes alongside real meat products can create confusion among consumers.

The second bill, H.F. 2649, reinstates the livestock capital gains deduction, which will prevent a new tax on producers. Whaley said this bill will collectively save livestock producers over $18 million by the year 2030.

Whaley also appreciates the efforts from Governor Reynolds and cattle producers across the state and said that these bills will support the entire Iowa livestock industry, not just the cattle.
