GoServ Global delivering hope to areas struck by disaster

by | Aug 25, 2023 | 5 Ag Stories, News

The ag industry is all about helping those who are in need. Not only will farmers come together to help each other and their communities, but the giving nature of the industry extends to people all over the country and the world. Few organizations epitomize that charitable nature like GoServ Global. GoServ Global has been working with Sukup to provide sturdy, disaster-resistant housing for people in Haiti and other similar areas. Paul van Gorkom, executive director of GoServ Global, said the effort fits in perfectly with their mission to “deliver hope.”

Gorkom said GoServ Global was spurred to action by the disastrous earthquakes that struck Haiti in early 2010.

Many of the bins are built next to each other as small villages, and Gorkom said they can be used for many different purposes.

Additionally, Gorkom said the fact that these houses are grain bins really helps their effort resonate with the ag industry in particular.

The feelings don’t just come from the ag industry, though. Gorkom said people across the state react to their mission with plenty of “Iowa nice.”

Gorkom added that there are several ways to contribute and make a difference through GoServ Global.
