We spend a lot of time getting our implements and tractors ready to roll for the spring planting season. But when was the last time you checked out your tires? I do not mean just making sure they are properly inflated, but also the condition of the tire and the longevity it may or may not still have in it.
Firestone Ag has put out a checklist for farmers to go through when inpecting their tires this spring. It doesn?t matter which company you are using for your tires; it is just a helpful guide to get the most out of them.
Audio: Full Interview with Firestone Ag Engineer Austin Fisher
Austin Fisher is an engineer with Firestone Ag. He says the first thing you want to do with your tires, is the one thing most of us will do, and that is to make a visual inspection. This is also the time to check for proper tire inflation. Fisher talks about where you can find that information, and also about an inflation calculator tool on the Firestone website that can work no matter what tire brand you have. Tire inflation is the first line of defense against soil compaction.
Fisher says that sometimes the damage isn?t so easy to see. You may just be starting to see the effects of things like stubble damage. This is where you can benefit from a close-up inspection of the tire condition.
Fisher talks about the upgrades you can make on your tires for the best performance, and he also talks about Firestone Ag?s IF & VF tire lines, which allow you to reduce compaction while carrying the same or greater loads. He also talks about the Stubble Stomper tires.
