While the Christmas feast is one of the best parts of the holiday festivities every year, some people might argue that the leftovers the following days are even better. However, it’s important to practice proper food safety steps in storing holiday leftovers for future meals.
USDA food safety expert Meredith Carothers says that large side dishes such as casseroles need to be handled carefully and stored quickly in refrigeration.
Carothers says that large cuts of meat need to be sliced into smaller portions and stored in the fridge or freezer immediately after the meal.
The food safe range for storing leftovers is three to four days in the refrigerator and three to four months in the freezer.
