Food Bank of Iowa hosts ribbon cutting for new expansion

While its usage has already proved to be immensely useful, the Food Bank of Iowa hosted an official ribbon cutting for its new expansion last week. In a time of unprecedented need for healthy and nutritious food for the hungry, CEO Michelle Book said the expansion has been invaluable, especially as COVID-era benefits have disappeared.

Book pointed out that food insecurity is much more prevalent than many of us think.

One of the biggest supporters of the new expansion has been the John Deere Foundation. Nate Clark, President of the John Deere Foundation, said they’ve made an effort to invest in front-line hunger fighters like the Food Bank of Iowa because no Iowan deserves to go hungry.

As demand for food has risen, Book said they’ve had to adjust their goals to distribute even more meals.

Fortunately, as Food Bank of Iowa Capital Campaign Chair Hannah Krause said, we live in a country where hunger is a solvable problem, and that can be achieved through investing in food pantries.
