Especially in a farm bill year, our Iowa representatives are working hard to fight for farmers across the state. Iowa Congressman Randy Feenstra said one of the bills he?s working on is the Crop Insurance for Future Farmers Act, which will help new farm owners get their feet off the ground.
A lot of farmland will be transferring hands in the next decade, so Feenstra said he wants to make sure that farmland stays in the hands of farming families.
Another piece of farm bill legislation that Feenstra is working on is called the Safe American Food Exports Act, which will allow the U.S. meat export industry to remain flexible in the face of potential FAD outbreaks.
All in all, Feenstra said the farm bill has a heavy focus on making sure diseases like African Swine Fever don?t get to our country in the first place.
