Today is Earth Day. A time when people try to observe the work being done and highlight the work still needing be done to protect our planet. Agriculture sometimes gets caught on both sides of that fence. Farmers are proud of being the original conservationists, but they also have bad actors who paint them all in a bad light.
Therefore the American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF) used Earth Day as a platform to highlight the efforts being made by farmers around the country.
Shelby Myers is an economist with the AFBF. She talks about the work being done by agriculture to reduce greenhouse gasses. She says agriculture accounts for only about 10% of the total GHG emissions.
Myers says the increase in conservation efforts by farmers is making big strides to reducing Ag?s footprint.
She adds that farmers and ranchers have much to be proud of as we celebrate our efforts to help better the planet.
