The hog market made a turn for the better just before last week?s World Pork Expo at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines. The upturn certainly made for more smiles at the expo but is this a sign of things to come or a short term turnaround?
Hog market futures did not react much to the initial news of the Supreme Court?s May decision to uphold Prop 12. Gavin McPherson a risk management consultant with StoneX says there were too many questions about the implementation of the law to see much movement in the marketplace.
McPherson says that while the hog market may not have reacted much initially to the Supreme Court?s Prop 12 decision, it was due to uncertainty with the enforcement rules of the law.
McPherson says that while margins are tight with high input costs, he is hopeful that feed costs could provide some relief to producers.
McPherson says that hogs have been in a difficult market for a while now and hopefully things are turning around.
