Memorial Day marks the unofficial start to the summer grilling season and with the grills firing up around the country questions about meat demand are lingering. With meat prices at the store at lofty levels and beef prices reaching record highs, will consumers have less demand for meat this summer?
Joe Camp of Commstock Investments tells the Iowa Agribusiness Radio Network that consumer concerns are two-fold right now with regards to high prices.
Camp says that even if demand for higher priced cuts dips, that doesn’t necessarily mean consumers will buy less meat this summer.
He adds that the meat industry had similar concerns last year but for the most part, demand remained strong.
