The Renewable Fuel Standard deadline for the Environmental Protection Agency to publish its final ruling on the amounts of renewable fuels that can be blended into transportation fuel in the coming year has arrived. These blending requirements are called Renewable Volume Obligations (RVOs) and under court order the EPA is supposed to make the final renewable volume rule announcement by June 14th.
United States Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) says the EPA will soon make its announcement regarding blending requirements for renewable fuels.
Grassley says that when the proposed blending requirements were announced last year, it caused concern within the biofuel industry in Iowa.
The EPA also included a pathway for eRINS for electric vehicles in the proposed rules. Grassley says that goes against the initial intent of the RFS.
United States Senators Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and John Cornyn (R-TX) are sponsoring a bill to stop the EPA plan to cover eRINS from biogas projects that make renewable electricity for EVs.
Grassley also warned that the 2023 Farm Bill drafting process has fallen behind schedule and the threat of missing the final deadline for the bill looms large.
United States Senator Chuck Grassley made his comments Tuesday morning during his weekly ag conference call with farm broadcasters and reporters.
EDITOR’S NOTE: As of Tuesday afternoon Reuters is reporting that the EPA has agreed to a one week extension with industry trade group Growth Energy. The EPA is now expected to release a final rule on biofuel blending volume mandates for the years 2023-2025 by June 21.
