The dairy industry has faced several tough years when it comes to production and pricing. Just when there looked to be light at the end of the tunnel in 2020, COVID-19 reared its ugly head. There have been many attempts at trying to find ways to provide stability for the industry. One of those attempts was to establish a Dairy Pricing & Policy Commission. However, the previous efforts have come up short. Now, two lawmakers in the House of Representatives are trying again.

Two Wisconsin lawmakers have introduced bipartisan legislation in the House to try and establish a Dairy Price & Policy Commission. Representatives Ron Kind (D-WI 3rd) and Mike Gallagher (R-WI 8th) say that the commission would consist of dairy farmers, processors, and industry experts. Rep Kind said that the goal is to return some stability and predictability to a volatile dairy market.

Kind adds that it is also about establishing stronger export markets, dealing with overproduction, and finding other market opportunities.

Kind also hopes that they will be able to thoroughly examine the Federal Milk Marketing Order. This could help better manage dairy supplies.
